About The Old Armory

Williston, North Dakota

Williston is located in northwestern North Dakota. It is the county seat of Williams County. Williston has a population of about 13,000 residents.

Williston was named from Daniel Willis James, a board member of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company highlighting the importance of the railroad in the early development of this community.

The Old Armory Building History:

The Old Armory Building in Williston, North Dakota served as a home for soldiers and thespians. It is an eye-catching structure that was built in 1916. Company E of the 1st North Dakota Infantry of the National Guard went door to door to collect donations to build the Old Armory in the early 1900's. The building served as the National Guard armory as well as the community's auditorium until 1931 when the Williston High School was built. The building continued to serve as the National Guard Armory until 1957 when the new armory was built at 2 Main Street in Williston.

The Old Armory Haunting:

People claim that the mannequins at the Old Armory move on their own. Disembodied whispers and apparitions have also been reported at this location in Williston, North Dakota.
