About Palmyra High School

Located in Otoe County, Nebraska at 425 F. St., 16 miles Southeast of Lincoln, Nebraska.

The History:

The city was named after the ancient city of Palmyra in the Syrian Desert. This is a small community of less than 300 residents.

The Haunting:

Reports of janitor-oriented activities involving strange electrical phenomena. Apparently, one of the old janitors (who died?) roams about the school. Another janitor (still living), shut off a vacuum cleaner and returned to find the vacuum cleaner had turned back on in his absence.

Also, reports of toilets flushing when there is no one in the bathrooms. Sounds of doors shutting loudly when no one is in the school.

Observations:

Schools are often reported to be sites of paranormal activity. And, indeed, janitors are often blamed for the reports, occasionally for experiencing the incidents, and sometimes for the haunting itself. One could argue that janitors would be the ones most likely to experience paranormal phenomena because they are often in the schools by themselves late at night or early in the morning. One could also argue that kids are captivated by janitors as adult characters who are not authority figures and therefore "one of them" in school systems. And further, one might be lead to presume that janitors...at least some janitors like to tell stories to kids who are willing to listen and give them a bit of a rush, just for the kick of it. I don't know the answer, I just propose that there is a pattern here and it's interesting to consider the possibilities.
