About Old UndergroundTunnels

History:

We were able to find a comment online about the underground tunnels that was unrelated to a haunting. This comment was in regard to the construction of skywalks in downtown Cheyenne. According to this comment, the tunnels run from the train depot "to St. Mary's and from O'Neil on 16th to Evans". They are also said to run along 15th St. from Snyder to the depot. Downtown buildings like the Plains, Majestic, Hynds, and the building housing the hotel and the Crown bar are conected by these underground tunnels. There are apparently arched entries in the basements of these buildings that lead into the underground tunnels.

Unfortunately, according to this commentary on the underground tunnels, they are not fit for exploration without a gas mask. Another commentator in Cheyenne noted the possible existence of aesbestos in the tunnels. Rubble has filled upu the tunnels, particularly around 15th and Carey according to one report.

The underground tunnels, according to one online source were built to carry steam into the downtown area, but when the steam plant was shut down 50 years ago, the underground tunnel systems were too. Another source claims that the underground tunnels were built expressly as a means of travel between the Plains Hotel, train station, and Heyman building.

Paranormal Reports:

Disembodied footsteps have been reported as well as disembodied voices in the underground tunnel system.
