About Fort Crook Ghost Town

Located south of Bellevue along Fort Crook Road.

The History:

Fort Crook was a community that developed between 1894 and 1896 with the first infantry troops arriving on June 28th, 1896. It became an airfield in 1918 when the 61st Balloon Company arrived. Landing strips were graded in 1921 and in 1924 it became known as Offut Field. The airstrip and the army post grew in importance until June 11, 1946 when Fort Crook officially transferred to the 2nd Air Force and on January 13, 1948, the entire complex was renamed Offut Air Force Base. On the base itself (which is closed to the public), there are old brick barracks, a hospital, and other buildings that once belonged to Fort Crook. The city of Fort Crook was located just beyond the west gate of Fort Crook. It served as a support for the soldiers stationed at the Fort. The towns remains would have been located approximately where US 73/75 runs now.

The Haunting:

We have not had any reports of paranormal activity at this location, but because it is the site of a community that technically “died”, we have flagged it as a potential hotspot of paranormal activity.

Observations:

The Fort Crook Ghost Town is apparently “buried” beneath US Highway 73/75 and has been overtaken by the Offut Air Force Base. There are some wide open fields between US Highway 73/75 and the railroad tracks that run mostly parallel to Fort Crook Road. This location has not been reported to be haunted and it seems as though it might be difficult to pick up paranormal incidents at the actual site of Fort Crook City because of the busy highway and Fort Crook Road running through the area. Also, the railroad runs through the location. Though the community died, another community did spring up in its place.

As it says in the post: The Fort Crook Ghost Town is apparently %u201Cburied%u201D beneath US Highway 73/75 and has been overtaken by the Offut Air Force Base. ... it's buried under the ground now.
