Cry Baby Bridge | Crybaby Bridge

According to one story told by Franklin County locals, many years ago a horse and carriage carrying a mother and her infant child went over the bridge on their way home. The horse got spooked and the carriage overturned. Both the baby and the mother were thrown out of the carriage and killed.

Another story about Cry Baby Bridge involves the days before the Civil War when there were numerous plantations in this area. During this time, a slave owner had a secret affair with one of his female slaves. She became pregnant. The slave owner wanted to hide evidence of the illicit affair and so one day, after the baby was born, he took his wagon and ran the woman and her new infant off the bridge as they were going across it.
