About Cheeseman Park

Location:

Located at 8th Ave. and Franklin St. in Denver, CO.

History:

According to some sources, Cheeseman Park was built on what used to be a graveyard. Some of the bodies were, according to reports, left behind when the park was developed.

Haunting:

Cheeseman Park is purportedly one of the most haunted locations in Denver.

Observations:

Locals do not advise spending the night in the park as it is a dangerous place to be. Apparently, the park is relatively safe during the day and people do go out jogging and hang out in the park during daylight hours.

2011-06-22 01:36:42 The Mt. Prospect Cemetery also covered the area of the Botanical gardens and Congress park to the east. There were segregated areas for Catholics, Jews, Chinese, Protestants, Masons, and the poor. The area south of the Botanic gardens, where the poor were interned, is said to be the most haunted. In 1893, E.P. McGovern was hired by the city remove the bodies from the Mt. Prospect cemetery to Riverside Cemetery. Too save money he was dismembering bodies and stuffing parts into smaller childrens caskets. When the city found out about the grisly scene, work was halted. The cemetery sat dug up and overgrown until it was turned into Cheesman Park in 1907. In 1909 the wealthy Cheesman family dedicated the large pavilion they donated to get the parked named after them. To this day it is estimated that 2,000 to 5,000 bodies were not removed. There have been several incidents of workers digging up areas and discovering bodies over the years. Since the 1970's, Cheeseman Park has become a known hangout for Gay Cruisers and those looking for extra-curricular activites in the bushes and trees on summer nights. In 1980, George C.Scott did a movie (The Changeling) based on the story of a haunted Mansion that was once loacted north of Cheesman Park
